Incident evidence
Keep original photos, video, reports, witness contact details, and communications. Make working copies instead of editing the originals, and record who created each item and when it was received.
Medical evidence
Maintain a provider list, appointment chronology, discharge instructions, restrictions, bills, and insurance explanations. Describe symptoms accurately; do not fill gaps with estimates when records are available.
Income and daily-impact records
Preserve pay records, employer communications, tax documents where relevant, replacement-service receipts, and a factual calendar of missed activities. Avoid exaggerated or formulaic diary entries.
Requests for preservation
Some video, vehicle, phone, or business records may be routinely overwritten. Ask a lawyer promptly whether a preservation letter or legal process is appropriate; do not attempt to access accounts or systems without authorization.
