01

Identify the public connection

A transit authority, public hospital, school district, road authority, city vehicle, or government contractor may raise distinct questions. Record the agency name shown on vehicles, reports, uniforms, correspondence, and property signs.

02

Do not assume the ordinary deadline applies

Government claims can involve immunity rules, short notice periods, required recipients, prescribed forms, and administrative review before suit. The correct procedure depends on the jurisdiction and entity.

03

Preserve proof of delivery

If a notice is submitted after legal advice, retain the exact version, attachments, delivery method, tracking record, and acknowledgement. A phone report or insurance claim may not satisfy a statutory notice requirement.

04

Verify with official sources and local counsel

Find the governing statute on the legislature’s site and the agency’s official claim instructions. A lawyer can determine whether those materials apply and whether another party or deadline is involved.
