01

Which claims and parties are covered?

Read the defined parties, released claims, incident description, and geographic or time scope. Broad language may extend beyond the person who issued the payment.

02

Is the payment final and complete?

Confirm the amount, payee, timing, allocation, confidentiality or non-disparagement terms, and any conditions. Do not assume another source will remain available after signing.

03

How are fees, costs, and liens handled?

Request a written distribution statement showing attorney fees, case expenses, medical or benefit reimbursement issues, other deductions, and the projected net amount.

04

What rights are being given up?

A release commonly ends covered claims even if an injury later proves more serious. Ask a qualified lawyer to explain the document and unresolved claims before signing.
