01

List people, vehicles, and roles

Record drivers, owners, employers, passengers, rideshare or delivery platforms, and any commercial relationship. Do not assume the policy on one vehicle is the only possible coverage.

02

Create one row per policy or claim

For each known insurer, note the named insured, policy type, claim number, adjuster, contact channel, and documents requested. Mark uncertain information as unconfirmed.

03

Distinguish liability from first-party benefits

Liability coverage, PIP, MedPay, collision coverage, and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage serve different functions. Availability and priority vary by policy language and state law.

04

Review statements and releases carefully

Confirm who an adjuster represents and whether a requested statement is recorded. Before signing a release or accepting a final payment, understand which claims and parties it covers and how liens or reimbursement interests may be handled.
