01

Identify who each insurer represents

An adjuster may work for another person, a business, your own policy, or a benefits plan. Record the company, insured, policy type, claim number, adjuster, and contact channel separately.

02

Separate coverage from fault

A policy can provide a possible source of payment without proving legal responsibility. Coverage limits, exclusions, priority, deductibles, and first-party benefits require policy and state-law review.

03

Respond accurately and preserve communications

Keep letters, portal messages, emails, recorded-statement requests, medical authorizations, and payment explanations. Distinguish facts personally observed from later assumptions.

04

Review proposed resolution terms

Before signing a release, identify every covered party and claim, payment timing, liens, fees, expenses, confidentiality terms, and rights being surrendered. A qualified lawyer can explain the effect.
